Mandira- a temple project

Print design project inspired from

the temples of Mangalagiri, Andhra Pradesh

The project was a collaboration with  Andhra Pradesh State Handloom Weaver’s Corporative Society (APCO) and the aim was to introduce the use of  colors and create prints that are apt  for saree layouts that can go to Vijayawada Airport stores. This includes developing a design from a theme based on Andhra Pradesh and then translating it for the body and the pallu for the saree.  The colours for the saree were chosen according to the states market study.

Inspiration -

The majestic temples at Mangalagiri, Andhra Pradesh, served as the main source of inspiration for this project. I've always been fascinated by the architecture of these temples, so I wanted to create a line of sarees that complemented their style.

Illustrations and ideations-

Visiting these temples, taking in their amazing architecture and sculptures, and attempting to capture the energy they radiated was one of the most fascinating aspects of this project. I created live sketches of all the intricate designs carved into the walls and pillars for future reference and inspiration.

Elements and motives -

The following step involved refining and adapting the motifs for the saree layouts.

Special care was taken to ensure that each motif enhanced the overall look and aesthetics of the chosen theme.
